You Won't Be-Leaf How Pretty this Freehand Foliage Nail Art Is!

 Nothing to Disclose

Sometimes when you're doing the background of a complex nail art manicure, it's a pretty gosh darn cool manicure all on its lonesome. Today is a great example of that idea! I did the leaves/foliage as the background of a floral manicure and thought it was a beautiful composition with the colors and polish finishes as-is. Check 'em out!

When Life Gives You Lemons, Your Blogging Suffers - BUT You Also Get Lemonade!

 Nothing to Disclose

Hello my loves! I feel like we haven't had a heart to heart in a bit, so here I am with some updates on the more personal side of things complete with Very Important Adventure Time GIFs to help express all the feels. As you may have noticed, I haven't managed to post as frequently the past month or two as I normally do - and that's for a variety of smaller reasons that add up to that pesky 'real life' that gets in the way of the super, fun, glittery internet life this blog leads. It's really not so bad! It's just been all at the same time and sometimes it's nice to get ~personal~ ya know?

First, I have a new job! I started working as a visual merchandiser for a large (super massive) home goods store in June and it is incredibly fun and incredibly tiring!! As a VM I'm responsible for the displays of products, so I'm a busy bee running around safely walking around the store with a huge ladder, tool cart + drill securing things to shelves, walls, and ceilings. I love work! But it doesn't leave a lot of time for checking the interwebs or reading blogs during the day (since I'm not at a desk with a computer), and often times I fall asleep embarrassingly early before I manage to get any blog-realted things done in the evening. However, I'm working on my time management and should have things running smoothly around here soon!

Second, my household is now sadly minus a precious guinea pig. My favorite piggie, Sabi, (shame on me for playing favorites, I know) was very sick for about a month and regardless of the multiple expensive vet visits and various medicines, she continued to decline. We finally had to say goodbye to her on July 11th. I miss her tiny little furry presence because the cage and the house isn't the same without her :( We do still have two very healthy pigs left, tho! So now they get a little extra love. What's next on the pet front? I'm not sure! I sort of want to get another piggly wiggly to make it the terrific trio again, but I could also be easily convinced that I should start saving my pennies for a puppy dog because I love dogs. For now we're content.

Third, what's up with cars needing so many repairs?! Almost every week lately there's a new car issue for me! Yesterday the air conditioning simply stopped working and the issue is not a lack of freon (we checked) so that's going to be uncomfortable for awhile in the middle of the summer in Miami [*cat crying emoji* *flame emoji* *skull emoji*]

For the past two months I've been balancing car repairs, vet visits, and general exhaustion and physical body soreness from work. But things are looking up! Work is easier know that I know the ropes a little better (and my body has adjusted to the many flights of stairs and lugging ladders around; yes I realize I sound like a wimp). Luckily my nails have survived work incredibly well - only a few minor corners broken off here and there on my right hand (the one y'all never really see). SO I'm looking forward to producing fresh content on a consistent basis again!!

I have also been contemplating switching over to WordPress because I like the control that comes with it for authors in terms of plugins, etc. If you have any advice - specifically about hosting (super specifically about which hosting service you chose and why and how much $$ it is) - please share in the comments or hit me up on one of my various messaging-style social medias (i.e. DM me on Twitter, msg me on Facebook or Tumblr, or shoot me an email)

My question to you, dear sweet, beautiful readers, is this: would you prefer new posts on Monday-Wednesday-Friday OR Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday OR Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday ORRRRRRR Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday? I'm waffling more between MWF and TTS, but I'd love for you to let me know which days you usually read blogs so that I can be one of the blogs you read ;) In a perfect world I would be able to post more than 3x a week but sadly in this one,

So, share whatever you'd like to with me in the comments! Maybe something cool happened to you lately and you wanted to talk about it? I know we all have a life beyond our nails and our computers!

And please do let me know if you have any preference in terms of days you read blogs. THANKS! You're the best!!

Freehand Butterfly Nail Art with My Custom Nayll Polish Lepidoptera

  Press Sample

Hello my sweet little dumplings - today I have something fun to show you! Recently I had the opportunity to craft some custom polishes with up and coming indie brand Nayll Polish on their website and let me tell you it is so fun you guise. One of my custom polishes is called Lepidoptera which is the scientific insect order for moths and butterflies. And of course to go along with the polish name I finally did my first freehand butterfly nail art! Check it out!

The Design

Butterfly nail art is definitely not an original idea, but I hadn't tackled it yet and I felt like there was no better opportunity than with this polish! I Google'd around a little bit and used different photos as a guide. I also definitely maybe probably over-did the white dots a little bit? I thought these were sort of meh because the line work seemed a little not-so-butterfly-ish but they went over very well at work so they must have looked OK!

The Polishes

My base color for this mani is 3 coats of Lepidoptera, a rather moody blue-green shimmery polish that I got to choose the ingredients for on Nayll.com. It's not quite a duochrome but it does have a flash of intense green shimmer at certain angles (and especially when layered, you'll see that soon in the swatch post!). Then I used black acrylic paint for the veins of the butterfly wings and Zoya Purity for the white dots.

For more Nayll Polish check them out on Nayll.com, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram [you should definitely follow her on IG because the before & after snaps are SO FUN to see and totally addictive]

Do you like my custom polish Lepidoptera?! Check back soon and I'll have approx. 243095u35u swatch photos of both this polish and some other custom Nayll creations :D

The Digit-al Dozen: Freehand Peruvian Textile-Inspired Nail Art

 Nothing to Disclose

Today I have a freehand nail art design for you inspired by some beautiful Peruvian textiles! Peru is one of many countries I would love to visit; I've got a long list of places I need to see. The Parts Unknown episode featuring Peru was fantastic - I love living vicariously through Anthony Bourdain's travels while watching that show.

The Seven Deadly Sins of Beauty - Envy

The Seven Deadly Sins of Beauty Tag - Envy | Manicurity.com

 Nothing to Disclose

Hello hello hello! Today is the LAST post in my Seven Deadly Sins of Beauty Tag series! Each Wednesday - except during the Digit-al Dozen week - I've been answering the different questions for each sin from The Seven Deadly Sins of Beauty Tag. I've also been adding some original questions that relate specifically to nails, too! For my last sin we'll be chatting about ENVY.

ENVY

1. What items would you like to receive as a gift?

Everything...? I mean, I would never say no to a gift! In particular I think perfume is a great gift item especially for birthdays or holidays. Personally I love the idea that through a scent I can be reminded of the gift giver all day. For instance my boyfriend got me Marc Jacobs Dot for this past Christmas and when I get a whiff of it during the day when we're both doing our own thing at our places of employment I am pleasantly reminded of him and how kind he was to buy it for me (also it smells nice, so that's a plus).

2. What's currently on your wishlist?

Not really much has changed on my 'want list' since I posted about my colorful craves in May, except for re-purchasing some things that are on my 'sort of pricey and not exciting to buy but I need them for my daily routine' type items like face primer. Check out that post here!

BONUS NAIL QUESTION

Does anyone's nails make you green with envy?

OF COURSE! I love how incredibly beautiful, long, lush, well cared for, etc. Lucy's nails of Lucy's Stash are! I can't manage to keep my nails that long for very long, but oh, her's are so stunning. I am also a little envious of how talented Missy of Gnarly Gnails is - she is so creative and does some amazingly mind-blowing manis that walk that line of gorgeous-grunge and photographs them so well. And Lindsey of Wondrously Polished could make a FORTUNE if she could bottle her freehand nail art talent and sell it :p

YOUR turn! Feel free to answer these questions in the comments :) Hope you enjoyed this series! Don't forget to read up on my other beauty sins - greedwrathgluttonysloth, pride, and lust

Classic Glitter Accent Mani - China Glaze Sweet as Air with Elevation Polish Pata Puffer II

Sometimes simple is better! I haven't done a 'classic' manicure like this ring finger glitter accent manicure in a long time. Occasionally I love a nice, uncomplicated nail art manicure in the form of tasteful glitter as a little bit of a 'breather' between my usual overly complicated and detailed nail art. Enter China Glaze Sweet Hook + Elevation Polish Pata Puffer II - these two polishes go together like peanut butter and jelly!!

Why is it always the ring finger for 'accent nails'?! For me I think it's my prettiest nail! Both of my ring fingers have the longest nail beds and they seem to be the least damaged in my daily life because they're not really as useful for things as my thumbs and pointers are.

Do you still like doing accent nails? Is your ring finger your favorite accent nail, or do you prefer to highlight a different finger (ha ha)?
