The Digit-al Dozen: Aurora Borealis Nail Art

 Press Sample

Hello hello! I'm so excited to show you today's nails because they're just as easy and possibly more beautiful than galaxy nails. For today I've got some aurora borealis inspired nail art; I would love to visit Iceland and see the Northern Lights there.

The Design

The natural light display of the aurora borealis is one of the most magical real-life things I've ever seen photos of!! I can't believe the crazy shades of colors and beautiful light play that naturally occurs. Did you know that the aurora borealis occurs in the north (i.e. the Northern lights), and there's also a southern version called the aurora australis? Here's a link to the particular photo that I used as a guide for this design (see it here).

The Polishes

The process sounds much harder than it really is; if you've ever done galaxy nails then aurora borealis nails are probably easier! For mine, I started with a single coat of Misa Dirty, Sexy Money to set the sky for my design. Then I taped off my fingers and got to doing some sponging!

I darkened my cuticle end with black and navy blue, then added some clouds in purple and light blue. For the stars I used a tiny needle-point dotting tool and white polish, plus my new favey fave holo top coat Holy Moly Holographic Top Coat* from indie brand Nayll Polish (*press sample) to give it that celestial feel. The Northern Lights were done by abstractly dry brushing on Floss Gloss's Con Limon.
