The Digit-al Dozen: Cuprum Texture Nail Art

 Nothing to Disclose

Woo woo! This week of Digit-al Dozen #MetalManis have been fab so far! Today I have some copper inspired nail art. It's definitely not the most original idea for this theme (and we've seen it interpreted by other DD ladies so far this week), but I love realistic texture nail art like this so I just had to do it too :p Plus these colors are gorgeous together, right?!

The Design

Realistic copper nail art was definitely one of my very first ideas for this week! I LIVE for nail art like this!! [Really, I do - check out these turquoise nails and these rutilated quartz nails] It's a little funny because these almost look like turquoise nails - but that's because copper gives turquoise its beautiful color! These could be interpreted as copper patina or as a hunk of native copper like this.

The Polishes

First I did a single coat of Orly Ancient Jade and let it set. Then I blobbed some Orly Ancient Jade, OPI Fly, and OPI Cuckoo For This Color onto a makeup sponge and dabbed it on my nails twice to build up opacity (you can see the sponge in the photo above). For MORE texture I used the almost dry brush from a bottle of  white crelly polish to do some soft, abstract streaks. Then I used some saran wrap to apply some 'flake' like splotches of Essie Penny Talk to my nails. For the final step I smooshed some copper nail foil (also see above) as shiny, shiny accents. Did I need to do two layers of copper flakey bits? No! But I think it gives it much more realistic depth which I love _♥ This sounds like a lot of work but it was all really very easy since each step was very small and quick.

  11. These look gorgeous, but I don't understand what you mean by "smooshed". Some step-by-step photos .would have been great, too
