The Digit-al Dozen: Twenty-Teens Colorblocked Tape Mani + Candy Lacquer Misfit Toys accents

Finally we've arrived at the end of the Digit-al Dozen week for May! This month we tackled the theme of 'decades' and I am so happy to say that I LOVED this week!! I thought it was going to be really hard and uninspiring, but I've enjoyed it immensely. I started the week back in 1930s with an art deco tape mani (see it here), then time-traveled to 1950s (see it here), then on to the 1970s (see it here), stopped in the 1990s to revisit my childhood yesterday (see it here), and am rounding the week out with the modern decade - the twenty-teens? Anyhoo, check out my modern color blocking tape mani + indie glitter accented nails below!

The Design

I decided to pick some of my favorite polishes and do a 'modern' color blocking mani with lots of triangles! I don't think that the pattern or colors are really very modern, tho. BUT they are some of my favorite colors since I've been blogging (and I started back in 2011 - YIKES). And I decided to include an indie glitter because I feel like indies have made such a huge impact on the industry this decade! On my ring and thumb nail I did some gradients (well blended two-color gradients).

On one hand I find this manicure really fugly - but on the other hand I might find it so fugly that it's cute?! And I feel like it represents the 'modern decade' well - i.e. me, a blogger, taking a risk doing a ridiculous manicure that may or may not go together that well and showing the whole internets. I think that the glitter wedges would have been more successful if I had given them a different background color than the plain peachy-nude background color. Oh well!

The Polishes

CND Perfectly Bare, Sally Hansen Mint Sorbet, and butterLondon Muggins are 3 of my favorite shades (definitely top 20). I went with China Glaze Sci-Fly By instead of Bahamian Escape because I thought the holo would be more fun in this ridiculous manicure. Misfit Toys by indie brand Candy Lacquer was chosen because it's my most recent 'stuff every kind, color, and shape of glitter that's available in the bottle' topper purchase so it includes lots of fun, ridiculous shape glitters (but no triangles or donuts, sadly). I am a sucker for rainbow glitter toppers and I can never have enough rainbow glitter toppers in a clear base (srsly I am not joking, but it is sort of sad).

How did I get such lovely glitter coverage from such a sparse and heavy glitter polish? I used a damp makeup sponge and sponged the glitter on!! You can see the difference between a normal 'dabbled' single coat on my thumb nail and one sponged coat on my ring finger (the ring finger is so covered in glitter that a lot of it is covering each other).
