Nimbus Dotticure

Ah, polka dots! Dots are one of my favorite nail art things - so easy and fun, and super relaxing for me. Since I feel like I've done a lot of different kinds of dotty nail art I wanted to try something new and different - enter the 'Nimbus Dotticure' using The Nailasaurus Nimbus Technique (see her original tutorial here). Check it out!

I used three coats of Zoya Dove as my base - a nice light grey creme. Then I used some other Zoya polishes - Tobey (pink), Arizona (orange), Tracie (foily green), Bevin (pastel teal), Yummy (bright pastel blue) - and did some 'halo'd dots - i.e. used the Nimbus technique but spaced the dots out purposefully. Basically this is like the first step of the Nimbus technique because I want to see the dots when I'm done! Then I layered up each little 'halo' until I liked the way it looked. Final step was to use a dotting tool to make an opaque dot centered on each 'stack' of halos.

I did not use top coat to finish this (altho I did use it before doing the dots because I am impatient and quick dry helps me know what it feels like to be a god) - the texture is less obvious in person because these photos are like 5000x larger than real life. I like that the dots stand out a lil more this way IRL BUT I will probably top coat as an experiment later anyway :p While I like this on the grey base, I think it would have been just a smidge more 'WOW!' for me on a white base. Although it does match the dreary weather here right now!!

Anyhoo, don't forget to check out my BBF (best blogging friend) Kirsten over at Geeky Owl and see her dotty nails today :D Now let me know in the comments - do you like this look? Is this something you would try?!
