I have two stunning and rather different Pahlish polishes (say that three times fast!) to share with you today! The first is El Topo Petit, a shimmery taupe, and the second is a 'classic' Pahlish shade aptly named Toxic and Timeless. I am so in love with both of these!!
El Topo Petit is a "smoky taupe creme packed with tiny red metallic flakes" - totally accurate official description that I wouldn't change at all! I used two coats for these photos. The formula was really great, thin but not runny and came off the brush effortlessly. Taupe is one of those amazingly fun neutrals because it changes color in different lighting, and El Topo Petit is exactly that way. Sometimes it looks more grey, sometimes purple, sometimes brown, sometimes like a weird glittery, beautiful mushroom. I would clarify that the shimmer is I guess more of a "flash", that it is obvious in direct light down the length of the nail and you totally know that it's there, but it's not like full-on shimmer all the time (i.e. between 'hidden' shimmer and just being a 'shimmery' color, you get what I'm saying?).
Toxic and Timeless [Version II] IS SO PRETTY! It's a "lightly shimmering teal green jelly base with a mix of blue and chartreuse hex, squares, and very sparse bars". Version Two (i.e. this one I am showing you) is reformulated and no longer has the large hex glitters the previous version had, but has square glitters instead (which I love). And obviously bars, so if you hate bar glitter IDK if this will work for you; the bars are indeed very sparse so they don't bother me at all personally, and I don't find them to be hard to work with. I paint slightly thicker coats so I found this to be opaque in two coats, but did three for fun (and glittery depth). Seriously. Two coats. And the formula was so perfect I didn't have to dig, shake, roll, thin, or do anything weird to get it to look fab. I am a huge green/teal/blue person, so this is a bottle of all of my favorite things. I didn't have a base color that matched the teal green jelly base exactly (which is pretty crazy, this base color is totally unique to my at least 1000+ stash!). This is one of those jelly-based polishes with lots of glitter and a perfect formula that just screams "Look at this perfect indie polish!" to me, and if you're a fan of green/teal polishes like I am I strongly urge you to go purchase this immediately :D BUT with great color comes great responsibility - to take caution when removing this because it stains your finger skin really a lot. I don't know if it stains your nails because I didn't wear this swatch for very long, but it could. All the best teals seem to stain!
While I didn't have any base polishes that match the jelly color of Toxic and Timeless exactly, I couldn't resist layering it for fun anyway! Here it is over OPI Cuckoo for this Color (which breaks my unofficial rule of only swatching glittery polishes over cremes so the base doesn't distract). OPI Cuckoo for this Color is a shimmery teal polish, I used 2 coats of CftC and then 2 coats of Toxic and Timeless. Yum!
