Bloodstone Saran Wrap + Watermarble Nail Art

TGIF my sweets! Today's nail art is inspired by the mineral heliotrope, which has the pretty badass nickname (err common name?) bloodstone. Bloodstone is the traditional birthstone for March and is generally really good looking. After looking at some inspiration photos (thanks, Google!) I wanted to do a mix and match of marbled nails (because of this photo) and more realistic stone-y texture goodness. Check these out!

Today I used only four OPI polishes - Red Lights Ahead...Where? (orange-toned red ((errr, is that just called 'coral'? probably...)) creme), Call Me Gwen-ever (#1 smoky-peachy coral creme for-eva), The Show Must Go On (a pink-orange glassfleck duochrome situation, used for sparklies), and Cuckoo for This Color (shimmery teal).

The two marbled nails were done with just two shades - Red Lights Ahead...Where? and Cuckoo for This Color. After doing a so-so fall-themed watermarble set recently, I had a lot of problems with bubbles ruining my pretty marble patterns. The comments y'all left were super helpful! This time I patted my nails gently before topcoating and look Ma, no bubbles!

For my saran wrap nails I went to town 'splodging' my base. I did one coat of RLA...W? before dabbing on some of Call Me Gwen-Ever and TSMGO in random places. Then I topcoated my lovingly splotchy base to prepare it for the saran wrap smooshing. After it was sufficiently dry enough I painted on a rather thick coat of Cuckoo for This Color before gently dabbing it with some plastic wrap here and there. Finally I put some finishing touches on the whole shebang by using the tip of the brush from Cuckoo for This Color to add back a little tealy-green where needed, and some sparklies here and there with The Show Must Go On. Depthhhhhh and sparklies are my jam this week.

I am hella happy with this mani! Sorry to toot my own horn, but I am sooo pleased with my succesful watermarble nails AND the saran wrap nails look really great, too. Love it when things work out better on your nails than you thought they would in your head ;D Rocks and mineral week has ROCKED! I loved doing this theme, big thanks to Laurie at Dressed Up Digits for picking it.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend! Now don't forget to check out the other lovely rock & mineral nail art from this week below.
