Pahlish Fall 2013 Dark Carnival Duo: Tom Fury and The Dust Witch Swatches & Review

(Press Sample)

I've got a gorgeous duo from Pahlish to share with you today - The Dark Carnival Duo for Halloween! The Dark Carnival is inspired by one of the creator's favorite books, Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury. Tom Fury is the 'base' color of this duo and The Dust Witch is a mega-gorgeous glitter topper. PS. This post has more photos than you would expect for a post about two polishes because I like to show versatility in layering - i.e. I've got Tom Fury alone, layered over a base color, and then with The Dust Witch on top of the gorge TF, AND THEN I also have The Dust Witch over two additional creme colors. Yum!

First things first is the base color, Tom Fury! Tom Fury is officially described as being a "dark olive with jelly with a mix of red, charcoal, and taupe shimmering flakes". It is one amazeballs polish in natural, bright sunlight you guys!! Indoors in indirect sunlight and artificial light it is a little more of a chameleon - one of those rather dark but definitely not black sort of polishes. I found the formula a tad thick at first swatch, so I added a little thinner when I did the second swatch over a base color. If you paint carefully I think this would be opaque in two coats; I did 3 for the photos.

Here's some snaps of beautiful Tom Fury in FULL ON sunlight to show off the shimmer!

Next is just one coat of Tom Fury over two coats of China Glaze Holly Day, a really beautiful yellow-toned green creme polish. With just one coat of Tom Fury the shimmery flakes are much more apparent  (pretty obvs, since they're not getting buried under layers). I like this polish equally both built up to opacity on its own AND layered, and I love that sort of variety in one polish ;)

Now The Dust Witch is the accompanying glitter topper and I LOVE IT SO MUCH. I am a little sad it's only available as a part of this duo (to my knowledge; it's not listed separately) because I am addicted to glitter toppers and I definitely would recommend this as a "do buy immediately". I love the mix of colors and the shapes of the glitters, plus it's sort of refreshing to see slightly smaller glitters again. *heavy sighs* Beeeeautifullll. What's so beautiful about it? It's got orange, purple, and melon glitters (and black, I think, or maybe that's just tiny purples playing tricks on my eyes?). It has circle glitters and squares (automatic love)! It has tiny glitters! It has glitters called 'melon', which sound delicious!

I do want to point out that the square purple glitters do have some reflective curl. If/when anyone comments about it, I wanted you to know I saw it and I examined it already, haha! In the bottle the squares look curly, but they do not poke up out of top coat at all and do not feel bent/curled/poke-tastic on my fingers.

Love this Halloween duo! The formula was great and I love LOVE that both of these colors are 'fall' but don't scream 'Halloween only' - they're definitely wearable all the time. I adore The Dust Witch and the shimmer in Tom Fury is amazing (especially if you can get your hands in sunlight during the day, not really sure what your profession is).
