The Digit-al Dozen Does it Again: Blue! Starring Earthquake Nail Art

It's our one year anniversary of the Digit-al Dozen and I am so excited! To celebrate we're taking a look back at the first 12 themes and doing one new mani for each theme, so that means 12 days of nail art designs the first two weeks of September!! Today's theme is "blue" and I thought I would try my hand (har har) at a technique/style I hadn't tried before - the earthquake mani. Also called the heartbeat or seismograph manicure, I first saw this 'explained as a thing' on BeautyGnome (a fellow Digit-al Dozen do-er, to boot!). Check it out!

This was pretty easy to do and I could see it being an easy and quick way to perk up and older manicure that had some tip wear. I did 1-2 coats as needed of Jesse's Girl Julie G Girls Night Out, a blue creme (a little dustier than my typical favorite, but I thought it would be fun to maybe not use Pure Ice French Kiss AGAIN). Then I painted on 2 coats of Orly Stone Cold (so so so pretty, omg) halfway down the nail; I didn't worry at all about it being straight or equally at the half mark because I knew that it would be covered with the liney part. Finally I used some white acrylic paint to do the lines, then topped it with OPI Fiercely Fiona (super sheer, so it needed some 'primer' as my boyfriend put it).

I think this is nice! But it's easy to let the lines get too crazy. I do prefer the inspiration manicure from Jessica more; she used a nail art pen and I much prefer the drawn-on look vs. my own more ikat painterly situation. Mostly it reminds me of this nightmare ikat fail, so it's a wee bit hard for me to get past it LOL. Anyhoo, glad I tried this out and I will definitely go the pen route in the future!

Now check out the other arts for today, and DON'T FORGET ABOUT OUR $200 USD GIFT CARD GIVEAWAY!
