Digit-al Dozen Does FASHION: Libertine NYFW 'Gem Party' Nails

Hey hey, it's that time of the month again - DIGIT-AL DOZEN!! Digit-al Dozen is probably my single favorite feature on the blog because it's so much fun and it really pushes me to think of new and creative ideas//topics that I wouldn't have thought of by myself. This week we're inspired by fashion and I was inspired by a 3D jewel encrusted "gem party" nail look that butterLondon did for the Libertine Fall 2013 New York Fashion Week runway! Take a peek!

My base color is 2 coats of FingerPaints Catwalk Queen, a fugly-pretty mustardy yellow. This is definitely "inspired by" and not "recreated in exact detail" because I used what 3D nail art supplies I had on hand, instead of looking for those sweet, sweet neon flat stud disc things. I also purposefully kept my 3D pieces closer to the cuticle to make this more 'wearable' (ha ha) and filled in the spaces between the large gems and pearls with tiny beads (what are we calling those now? caviar beads? tiny balls? not sure) for added texture.

I actually prefer my version (love when that happens) because I really love the tiny beads between all the other things; it makes the whole nail look a lot more old school embroidered Game of Thrones vs. flashy neon grown up Lisa Frank craft time. Not that there's anything wrong with flashy neon grown up Lisa Frank craft time, I'm a big fan of that! I just like the tiny beads smooshed in the negative space :D

Now check out the other fashionable designs for today!

Since you've seen mine, don't forget to check out the original nail look here! Which one do you prefer?!
