Hey all, sorry this post is a
little lot later than I normally post - I was busy burning the blogger candle at both ends today! Anyhoo, my fourth fashion-inspired design for this week takes cues from the limited edition and super awesome aqua Nike Roshe Run "Safari" sneakers (borrowed from my boyfriend's sneaker bookcase for this photo shoot). As the title suggests, I tried out some texture techniques with these which worked so-so. Check 'em out!
I was SO inspired by Kerrie's quilted nails from day one of this week that I just had to try out the floss-pick 'quilt' texture idea. Texture is one of my faves, and I love the clever genius that realized you could use the tiny piece of floss in a floss pick to dent your nails in a pleasing pattern! The floss thingies at my house are for special, sensitive teeth so the floss itself is more flat, thin, and tall vs. the typical round floss. Unfortunately I did find it a little bit challenging to work with and so I feel like these are a little sloppy, specifically my ring finger, but I'm not sure how it could be better so *shrug*
First I did a coat of butterLondon's Nail Foundation as a base coat, then 2 thick coats of OPI Who the Shrek Are You? on my ring nail and 3 thin coats of Picture Polish Honey Dew on my other nails. Then I put on a thick layer of matte top coat and waited 5 minutes.
After the timer went off (yep, totally timed it!) I went to town with my floss pick - focusing on horizontal lines to mimic the bright green interior of the shoe. For my other nails I did lines in all directions, all over to make a more hatch mark pattern. Then I dabbed some more Honey Dew at the cuticles and did some "Safari" print inspired dots. On my thumb I did my best attempt at the Nike swoosh in the negative space of some more dots! As a final touch, I did a quick outline around my ring finger with Color Club Age of Aquarius. Whew!
Don't forget to check out the other designs for today below!
See you back here again tomorrow for one last fashion-inspired design :)
