DEXTER Week: My Dark Passenger

How could we go through a week of Dexter inspired designs and not talk about Dexter's dark passenger? Poor Dexter Morgan, the main character on the Showtime show Dexter, was 'born in blood' and is ruled by his urge, his dark passenger, to kill people. Instead of killing willy-nilly (so pass√©), he waits and channels his rage into killing other muderers, rapists, and ne're-do-wells. Today's nail art is a simple, subtle creepy dedication to Dexter's dark urges. Also I swear I am totally normal and I hope that nothing bad happens to me this week, because my blog seems all sorts of creeeeeepy. It's for the nail art challenge, you guize!

from pointer to pinkie (also in order in photo): Zoya Sooki, China Glaze Red Satin, Orly Grave Mistake, Zoya Cola

My base colors are a gradient of reds which move from 'fresh blood' on my pointer to 'dried blood' on my pinkie. It just makes sense that the base colors would be blood related, considering the significance of blood in Dexter's personal life and career (he's a blood spatter analysis d00d). The details were all done with matte black and a small striper brush, as well as a fan brush - just some simple swipes here and there. I wanted it to look a little like the Dark Passenger was walking about. This nail art is much more simple than the other two manicures so far this week, but I like this just as much because it's still really strong imagery.

Check out my other partners in crime this week below:

PS. Did you know there is a brand of culinary knives named Dexter? Not sure if Dexter is named after the knives specifically, but it's definitely a funny thing regardless. I've cut myself multiple times on a crazy sharp Dexter brand knife when I used to work at a cafe (cutting bagels in half, what joy) and I'd always think "Dang you, Dexter Morgan!"

PPS. The knife on my pointer finger near the blood slide in yesterday's art is an oddly shaped sushi knife (see it here). It is weird shaped IRL and more so when freehanding it on a curved nail bed, ha!
