While I had thought of doing something inspired by La Guerta or Batista's goofy outfits (apparently Florida = crazy fab clothes), I didn't want to do one mani that sort of stood by itself in a week of very similarly focused Dexter nails. This one was a challenge because I did the boat first in 2D and then didn't like it, so tried to fake some perspective. I knew the boat would be hard, and it was, but I think it looks like a boat? Without me having to say, do you see the boat? So I'd say it was somewhat successful. I did 'sky' gradients on my four fingers and a sandy gradient on my thumb, then painted the details with acrylic paints and polishes (clouds on pointer and pinkie, bags on ring and thumb, and boat on middle). Then I mixed Revlon Royal with clear and globbed it on the ends so it looked like water. I like the contrast in textures and materials in this manicure and I did not top coat it for photos. This is probably my most artistic manicure to date in terms of really making conscious choices about layering up from background to foreground, etc. Makes me wonder a little bit why I don't paint larger canvases?! Oh, probably the cost. Fingernails are free!
