Digit-al Dozen: Psychedelic Lepidoptera

Yay! I've got a fun mash-up of nail art techniques for you today!! I first saw this idea over at Dressed Up Digits (see the post here) and the general idea is that you make an interesting gradient base, then watermarble with black and clear (or a sheer polish) on top so that it looks like butterfly wings. I sponged different colors on each nail (not really a gradient, deffo more of a Crumpet-style splodge) and then got to work. Check it out!

This is my first time playing with my chosen Tri-Polish Challenge shades for April (yes, a little earlier than the challenge because I wanted to make sure these were the right ones together)! I did a glue base, then doubled up on base coat because China Glaze Custom Kicks (turquoise with near impossible to photograph gold shimmer) is a stainer. My splodging also included the infamous Riveting (bright orange glass fleck), and Fuchsia Fanatic (hot pink crelly), white creme, and a gold foil. Then I marbled with black and Pure Ice Heartbreaker. I had a hard time with this one because any sheer or clear polishes I tried were too gloopy, too runny, and/or dried too quickly for me to do make a large enough bullseye to make interesting designs. I also think maybe my base is too complicated for this? My other issue with this mani is that overall it reminds me a lot of my CATS IN SPACE which is sad because this one would be GORGEOUS if I hadn't done galaxy nails in the same week. Cosmic butterflies. Anyhoo, interesting experience!!

Psst. Lepidoptera is the scientific order that all moths and butterflies belong to. Did you know there are 174,250 estimated species of moths, butterflies, skipper-butterflies, and moth-butterflies?! They're pretty cool + they help pollinate things!

Check out the other nails for today!
