My Favorite Things: January

Oh my gosh, can you believe an entire month of 2013 is done already?!?! I definitely feel like I'm getting really old because time seriously flies by now! Anyhoo, here are some of my favorite things from the month of January. I was very busy (and organized) - 34 posts in a 31 day month while taking weekends off (mostly)!! *pats self on back*

favorite new (tried) polish: Probably Just Busta Mauve. I waited foreverrrrr to both purchase and then use it, but it is really beautiful and unique. I have nothing similar in my stash and I am glad I got it!

favorite new (UNtried) polish: Too many, y'all, too many.

favorite new (UNtried) indie polish: I might, maybe, possibly have gotten a little carried away and picked up most of the Candy Lacquer Valentine's-y heart polishes recently....

favorite new polish collection: Still patiently waiting for the Zoya Pixie Dust polishes, which I am still equally excited about!! I think as a whole, the new China Glaze Avant Garden looks really well rounded and pretty dang awesome, but since I'm trying to really really purge my stash (i.e. going from 5 colors that are all distinctly different shades of light purple to just one 'go-to' light purple) I am sort of staying away from all the colors that actually make my heart go pitter-patter (the purples and blues). I am super into the weird mossy green crelly, tho!

manicure I did: There were some really fun series plus the relaxed 31 Day Challenge (not quite done with that, yet, tho) in January! I did a week of art-themed nails for Digit-al Dozen, the ABC Challenge is still trucking along (we made it thru K in January), and of course I also swatched some fun indie polishes.

Digit-al Dozen Does Art week

My very favorite manicure from January is so hard to pick!! I think I've done quite a few awesome things this month. I really liked my yellow marbled nails, my green camo nails, my ENTIRE week of art-themed nails (above), my double gradient nails, my 'delicate' nails, the acidic watermarble nails, and the movie-inspired raptor nails (below, under tips/techniques)... So I'll pick my Just Busta Mauve + Studly Half-Moons so they get more lovin'

new technique/tip: At the end of January I was being pretty awesome at stamping with multiple colors!! Sort of a born-again, new-to-me technique because it's not new, but I am doing well with it recently. I used it in my 'inspired by a movie' mani to look like a velociraptor!

favorite new makeup item: I got a lot of fun stuff for Christmas, and then I ordered the Lime Crime uniliner set as a present for myself. It's alright! I feel sort of indifferent about it, tbh. I was sort of disappointed that I didn't get any sort of freebie (mini eyeshadow primer pot or even a sticker...) or free shipping considering my order was fairly large (above the usual 'free shipping' barriers), and then most of the liners either have hairs sticking out oddly or hairs that are too long and required me to trim them myself. Not exactly ~the best~ for $14 "luxury" liquid eyeliner, eh? But some of the colors are very cool. You win some, you lose some.

I've tried the yellow, pale blue, purple, and dark blue. My favorites are the blues so far! I tried stacking the yellow and purple and it was a fugly hot mess; smears, cracks, etc. They are less opaque than I thought they would be, but if you do too many coats they crack.

favorite TV show to watch while blogging: I've picked up a lot of new shows in January! Deception (crime), The Following (crime), Lost Girl (SyFy show about fae), Face Off (excellent SyFy makeup show), Mob Doctor (another new, but cancelled, doctor show)... I like crime and sci-fi, what can I say?!

book: Finished The Lost World in a day! Now I'm working on Next by Michael Crichton, about scientific research on genetic material and animal modification. I really like Michael Crichton books, but his style feels really obvious now that I've read several of his novels in a short amount of time. I am looking forward to reading something new after this!

    1. I know, right?! It's based off a book series tho, so I think I'll look into that!

  2. If you like zombies, then you need to watch The walking dead, and if you like vampires, ghosts and werewolfs then you should watch Being human :)
