Digit-al Dozen x 31DC: Blue Starry Night over the Rhone

AHHHHH! That's the sound of my excited yelp because I am sooo so thrilled about this week's mash-up between the Digit-al Dozen and my relaxed 31 Day Challenge. We're doing manis inspired by art and they are so fun to do! I picked 5 different artists that I felt were most personally influential and can't wait to share them with you. Today's blue nail art is inspired by Van Gogh's Starry Night over the Rhone, the first and less famous Starry Night painting he did in 1888. Vincent Van Gogh is a famous post-impressionism painter, a movement that uses vivid colors and thick application of paint with distinct brushstrokes - a style that I've learned to love over the years (and is how I like to paint personally, of course). One of my favorite museum trips with my family was to an impressive side-by-side exhibit of Van Gogh and Gauguin that showcased some of their time together, and then the years after. While I like the more famous Starry Night painting, Starry Night over the Rhone holds a special place in my heart - I mean all those shades of blue, come on!

I used the method outlined in this tutorial to essentially paint my own nail art strips! It was super fun to try a new technique and I really enjoyed doing it, plus it means I can be 'painting' some nail art while keeping my current nail art on. I used a variety of different blue polishes, plus some yellow, orange and white and a teeny paint brush (and and orange stick for small details). I did not put topcoat on when I was finished because I personally love that brushstrokey texture! Application was surprisingly easy, but I will remember not to use a shimmer polish next time because it made clean-up a little challenging.
Here's a Pinterest-worthy collage with my inspiration art!

For my part I know nothing with any certainty,
but the sight of the stars makes me dream.
