MABB Weekly Beauty Question

Photobucket

Each Wednesday, the Metro Atlanta Beauty Bloggers will answer a beauty-related question just for fun! This week's question is...

What's the one makeup/beauty item that intimidates you most?

Foundation is definitely the makeup item that intimidates me the most!! My Mom never used foundation, so I don't have a lot of experience with it. I find the shade range and the price to be really intimidating; plus the few times I've tried using anything tinted all over my face I feel like I look weird.

I'm also somewhat intimidated by concealer because I still haven't found a super awesome concealer for my dark under-eye circles, but I feel like part of that is the price point, too. I *did* just buy two different shades of theBalm Time Balm concealer on HauteLook (yay! on sale!!) earlier this week tho, so I'm very excited to try it out!!

MABB Weekly Question!

Photobucket
Each Wednesday, the Metro Atlanta Beauty Bloggers will answer a beauty-related question just for fun! This week's question is...

How did you choose your blog name?

Ooh! What a fun question and I can't wait to read the other answers! For my blog, I wanted a short name that was one word, easy to write and say, that was directly related to the content of my blog without being too literal (i.e Emma's Nails). There were so many nail blogs with 'nail', 'polish(ed)', and 'lacquer(ed)' when I decided I wanted to blog a year ago, but there were slightly less blogs with the word 'manicure' in the title. After some brainstorming with my boyfriend, I came up with Manicurity!

Digit-al Dozen Does Blue - Round 'Em Up!

It's the end of the first theme week for the new group I'm in, Digit-al Dozen. I did a quick collage of my 5 blue manis from this week, with my two favorite ones being bigger :D Below I've listed the inLinkz code for all the posts from all the members from this week; there are so many great things to check out!

Which one from my Blue Week is your favorite? My very favorite is the one on the bottom right, 'Comfy Contrast' based on a cool chair I pinned once last summer.

Digit-al Dozen will be back in October with some scary nails ;p

TGIF + Digit-al Dozen Double Whammy

Wooo-eeeee! I have a really pretty combo of indie polishes to show you to celebrate TGIF and the end of Blue Week. This week's TGIF: Thank Goodness, Indy Indie Friday! is Dollish Polish Dark Passenger with Lacquistry Aqua Shredded as an accent topper on two fingers. This post is semi-picture-heavy because I wanted to try and show the different color shift of the Dollish Polish Dark Passenger from blue to purple to red-ish sparkles.

Don't forget to check out the other ladies of the Digit-al Dozen on this last day of BLUE WEEK!

How do you feel about these two indies? Must haves or meh?

Dollish Polish
is available at Llarowe ($11), OverallBeauty ($8.75), and on her own BigCartel store ($8.75). You can follow her blog here and her Facebook is here.

Lacquistry is available on Etsy ($8.75 ). You can check out her Facebook here. I love her and highly recommend her; she has the most amazing customer service I have ever experienced in the indie market.

Don't forget to check out Kirsten's TGIF post over at Geeky Owl! She's also a part of the Digit-al Dozen; her link is up above in the inLinkz.

Comfy Contrast

Wow, Blue Week Day Four already! This week is really flying by!! Today's manicure was inspired by a really pretty chair I pinned a very long time ago when I was looking for upholstery inspiration. I used some different images from the DRK-A plate to stamp 'fabricy' patterns on my pointer, middle, and pinkie fingers. There are some really cute and subtle stripes on my pinkie that are hard to see in the first photo, but they're a little easier to see in the collage photo.

Instagram'd bottles - Konad white, Barefoot in Blue, Cordur-Orange, Konad red

I did a row of orangey-gold rhinestones to look like the nails from the chair. I really like how this one turned out! I wish the white images stamped onto the blue were more crisp, but they still look really nice (at least in person). I'm a little obsessed with my pinkie! Not sure if it's apparent without me pointing it out, but the orange does look different on my ring finger than on my pinkie because I layered it over a full 2 coats of the blue paint. Since orange and blue are complimentary colors (across on the color wheel), they make each other more bold looking. Painting the orange over the blue to make it look brighter is a technique called overpainting, and I did it on accident! Then my pinkie looks a lot more red-orange because there's red stamped on top of the orange. ~*the more you know about color theory*~

Frog-esque (Also, A is for Animal Print)

Today is a double whammy post! I'm doing my third post for Blue Week and I've also started a new ABC challenge on Wednesdays. BUT I realized I haven't explained why I'm doing Blue Week yet! 'Blue Week' is this month's Digit-al Dozen challenge. And I'm sure you're thinking, oh okay, what's Digit-al Dozen? Let me tell you! Digit-al Dozen is a group of 12 bloggers that was assembled by Miss Crumpet and each month we'll be doing a new theme for a week; sometimes as simple as a color to inspire a whole week of nails, but perhaps we'll be doing more complicated themes, too. The ABC Challenge is to post sometime each week on Wednesday that relates to a different letter of the alphabet; a letter per week for 26 weeks.

Combining 'A' for animal print with blue week = (hilariously bad) frog print!

This pattern is supposed to be a 'Bronce morph' of the Dendrobates auratus. It is SUCH a pretty frog! My attempt at conveying it feels like a total fail! My dots weren't tiny enough and I could have used shimmers to make it look more true-to-photo. I like the idea of doing frog patterns and I hope to practice and improve for the future because they look so dang cool! But their perfect randomness was really hard for me to paint.

How do you feel about this froggy pattern? Froggy fun or froggy flop??

MABB Weekly Beauty Question

Photobucket

Each Wednesday, the Metro Atlanta Beauty Bloggers will answer a beauty-related question just for fun! This week's question is...

How do you feel about polish trends like nail art, crackle, "fish egg" manis, etc?

Polish trends are so easy and fun to try out because it only takes a few minutes to dry with fast dry top coat! Being primarily a nail blogger, most of my blog content is all about trying different nail art trends to see how easy or hard it is to accomplish and how wearable it is in real life. I think crackle got played out way too quickly - like a Top 40s song on the radio - but it can be really cool in certain combos! I also really like 'texture' nail art like fish eggs and rhinestones.

Here are a few of my favorite more 'trendy' nail art attempts!

neon orange crackle over gold
'fish eggs' and rhinestone accents for Hunger Games
'tribal' crackle
'drippy' micro-bead

I'm Singing the Blues

Wait! It's not the end of Blue Day 2 yet!!! I promise, because here's my post :D Deborah Lippmann's Lady Sings the Blues has been in my "special" Helmer drawer, untried, for a long time. And now I've finally used it! I did a mini French tip with another DL polish, Lara's Theme, to contrast the blue glitter polish.

This is just one coat of Lady Sings the Blues dabbled on. It's a jelly blue base with silver glitter in it, and it's really very pretty. However, I'm not totally sold on if I like it yet or not... Sometimes the silver glitter doesn't get enough of the blue jelly on top, and it sort of looks like bleeding blue glitter :( I also noticed that I needed an extra layer of top coat after everything was dry, because this polish looks so much better extra shiny and glossy.

How do you feel about this polish? Is this something to stash or swap? The application is really quick (I don't see myself ever needing to use more than one coats), and it is pretty - but I'm not sure about it.

Kaelen NYFW Nails: Redo in Blue

In honor of the ultra-awesome, ultra-famous Ulta beauty deal where butterLondons are a remarkable 'buy one get one free' for one day, I decided to recreate one of the butterLondon manicures from the runway. Plus I like doing recreations on Mondays because of Monkey See Monkey Do :) I picked the messy and cool half moon mani from the Kaelen show. The original is matte black with a nude cream on top, but I thought I'd do it with a matte creme and a sparkly color!!

The base color is one quick coat of Sally Hansen Thinking of Blue, topped with SV THEN topped with Essie Matte About You. Then I brushed on OPI Into the Night with the Pro-Wide brush turned sideways (i.e. the skinny side of it) and just sort of messily did strokes. This mani was really quick and easy! Do you prefer the original or my redo? I really like the photos of this, but I don't know that it was as cool in person I guess? I might like the results of the original better; not sure if it's the change in finish between my redo and the original or the colors or what.

butterLondon mani from Kaelen show

Blue is my favorite color, so I hope you're excited for an entire week of blue posts!!

Don't forget to check out what the other ladies have posted for the first day of Blue Week and check back again tomorrow for more blue!
And while we're talking about butterLondon, are you picking any up during the sale?!

Project Runway: Starving Artists (Make Outstanding Outerwear!)

Derpy title, sorry y'all! However, the wining team for this week's episode of Project Runway really turned it out. This week had the designers raising money to buy their fabric by bedazzling and customizing t-shirts, bags, and other accessories. I thought the idea of getting them to raise funds for their own challenge was cool, especially when they weren't told what the challenge was until after they had gathered money. Then the teams of three had to create two fall appropriate looks and at least one outerwear piece.

The obvious winner was the Christopher, Gunnar, Sonji team with their fresh and cozy fall clothes!! I really liked the things they made. The other two teams were just ...meh. I was surprised they didn't send more people home at the end of this episode since they didn't send anyone home last week! I thought for sure the weakest link in both of the losing teams were going to go, or maybe more people from the Alicia, Dmitry, Elena team. I don't have a lot of things to say about this episode that are nice - ha! I just have a lot of 'wtf' and 'oh, really?' comments including: what is Heidi wearing this season, did she lose her stylist? Why doesn't someone tell the judges to stop tanning so much? I don't really like the colors chosen by the Melissa, Fabio, Ven team - blush pink for fall..? But there were some great quotes from this episode, too! Dmitry's rants about Elena, and all of Christopher's quotes about Boris & Natasha made my giggle.

Which team was your favorite this week?? Have you been peeking at the fashion week photos of all 8 contestant collections, because I totally have been :D

Project Runway: Oh My Lord & Taylor

Yikes, it has been a slow time here at Manicurity lately and I am really sorry. But! Never fear! I am back and I've got last week's Project Runway mani + re-cap post for you today!!

nail photo taken with flash

Last week's episode of Project Runway challenged the designers to create a cocktail dress or gown to complete the Project Runway themed collection at Lord and Taylor. Christopher won the challenge with a gown; a smart move on his part to choose a gown to round out the collection, I didn't love the design. My favorite was Dmitry's! Again! I was really surprised he didn't win this challenge because I thought his dress was great - a cool fabric, classy design, and would be a great choice for people of different ages. For my mani I did 1 coat of Sinful Colors over a navy blue, then freehanded some stripes to look like seams in China Glaze Concrete Catwalk. I added some randomly placed rhinestones to spice it up, and because the model wore some really pretty sparkly bracelets :D

How did you like last week's episode? Did you pick Christopher's dress as your winner, or would you have picked a different dress to complete the Lord & Taylor Project Runway collection??

MABB Weekly Beauty Question

Photobucket

Each Wednesday, the Metro Atlanta Beauty Bloggers will answer a beauty-related question just for fun! This week's question is...

What has been your biggest blogging challenge thus far?

I think my biggest blogging challenge so far is obviously consistency with getting posts written and published. I don't have a very developed 'vault' of posts - just photos that could be posts - so when something comes up (like being incredibly sick with a head cold over this long weekend), I don't have content ready to share. Definitely something I hope to work on!!
