Haulage

Hello! Hope you had a wonderful weekend; I had a great time hosting a small going-away party for a friend and then going to a show last night. I've been looking through some of the entries for my giveaway (I can't believe I'm over TWO HUNDRED FOLLOWERS already! yikes!!! THANK YOU!) and a lot of you enjoy haul posts. Sometimes I feel bad about all the things I buy, but if everyone else wants to see it - why not! I've been so so busy lately that it keeps me from buying things, which is both a pro and a con. Here's a round up of some of my recent goodies including an order from Pretty and Polished! I've put some of the pictures in this post under a cut because it's a particularly long post; super pic heavy.

today's haul from Rite-Aid
Rite-Aid magnetix
I finally found the magnetix display at Rite-Aid! YAY! There were only four of the eight colors remaining, these two and a silver and a pink. I picked up these two because I was planning on getting the four shades that Icing has. I can't wait to swatch these! Each polish comes with two patterns.

so pretty and unique, right? just wait
I picked this one up on a whim at the last moment (as in on my way to the register); I thought surely it was super unique and pretty, but of course found something similar in my stash. I'll compare soon, but you're welcome to guess what it's similar to before then :)

Pretty and Polished! I got some minis :)

Day 21 - Inspired by a Color featuring Lynnderella's Cauldron Drippings!

When I got Lynnderella's Cauldron Drippings in the mail, I unopened it by a box of polish I had been adding to my spreadsheet and China Glaze Custom Kicks jumped out at me. I think the turquoise base with gold shimmer is a weird, fun color to go with the fugly-pretty combo of Cauldron Drippings. This was one of those times when I just had to put these two things together on my nails immediately, so I would definitely say that I was inspired by these colors! Please enjoy the following picture spam; I had a hard time picking specific pictures, and I figure you'd want as many to look at as you could have :)

macro goodness

1 coat of Custom Kicks and 2 coats of Cauldron Drippings, topped with Gelous then SV. It was still a little bit textural with just the one coat of Gelous.

One major pro and potential con to Lynnderella glitters is that the base usually has some colored shimmer in it, so I feel like you can clearly see the orange shimmer and how it's uneven over the turquoise base. This works really well if you were using a more similarly colored base! I did one coat of the Lynn all over, and then I went back and sort of placed things where I wanted on the second coat. I don't think the orange shimmer is so obvious in person or uneven seeming, but it certainly shows up a lot in these pictures.

Day 20 - Watermarble with Nicki Minaj OPI colors

Here's another right hand post! I recently got the mini pack of Nicki Minaj OPI colors and instead of doing swatches, I wanted to do some sort of fun nail art with them. Ta-da! A Nicki Minaj watermarble! I used OPI Skull & Glossbones as my base, then water marbled with the three creamy colors in the pack - Pink Friday, Did it On 'Em, and Fly. I wanted to see what it would look like marbling over a glitter, so I put a layer of Save Me on my ring finger before marbling, then put another layer on afterwards. For my pointer finger I used tap water, and it gave me a very cool, subtle watercolor effect. For all my other fingers I used filtered water, and the colors seem much brighter. This was my second time doing a water marble and so far I think they're pretty fun and easy! You can see my first water marble here.

some extra glitter over the water marble :)

My mini pack was missing Metallic for Life, so I haven't tried it yet. I really like the creamier colors in this collection, so I'll probably pick up bigger bottles of Pink Friday and Fly in the future since I have nothing similar in my collection so far. I'm so surprised that my color preferences are opening up so much - I'm starting to really love nudes so much, and this pink is pretty! My fave finger, my ring finger, is super subtle and it makes me really want to try the 'acetone marbling' thing a lot of people have been doing lately.

And sorry my days are all out of whack!

Day 19 - (Recycled) Galaxy Nails

For whatever reason, I end up feeling really exhausted at the end of each week so my Thursday and Friday challenge days get lost, and I play catch up all weekend. I have so much respect for people that blog so frequently! As much as I love it, it really is hard work. I originally wanted to do some fun galaxy nails with Orly Androgynie, but Kristen's mani looks so much better than mine could right now - there's no point! Instead, I'll keep my glittery nails on and show you some pictures from a galaxy nail post from November.

I can't believe how much I've improved and how far I've come since then! My nail polish stash has at least doubled since November, my follower count has practically tripled, and I'm generally better at painting my nails - but these still look prettttty good. I do paint with a teensy gap now and I think that makes all the difference (but maybe you wouldn't notice from my last post! ha!). Anyhoo, thanks for looking back with me :D

Everyone is really blowing me away this week, so don't miss out! Bec at Lacquer Dreams, Julia at Julia Loves Nails, Linda at Nail Polish Enthusiast, Alyssa at Fancy Phalanges and Jenna at The Key to Jennasis, Kirsten at Geeky Owl and April at Munia's Nails

Day 18 - Half Moon Tape Mani

I thought I was soooo cool and edgy doing a diamond tape half mani for today's challenge. Hilariously, at least three of us doing the challenge are super cool and edgy!! My inspiration for this one came from this post I saw on tumblr lately, and this combo of untrieds feels inspired by Chloe's Nails (which gave me the lemming for the base color a long time ago). I really like these colors together! I chose the turquoise to compliment the flash in Galaxy Girl (yum)

base: OPI William Tell Me
turquoise accent: FingerPaints Winter Sky
shimmery accent: Orly Galaxy Girl

I really wish I was able to take actual sunlight pictures more often (at all?); I will try to snap some pics of this outside tomorrow because it is beautiful and mysterious, and dare say I - a totally sexy combo of colors! But I do have some fairly obvious tip wear from work today = bummer. And at the last minute I decided to throw in the blurry picture below to show off the shimmery pretty in Galaxy Girl.

are you seeing double? sort of!

Anyhoo, please check out the other ladies participating and see who has similar diamond-y nails today :D Bec at Lacquer Dreams, Julia at Julia Loves Nails, Linda at Nail Polish Enthusiast, Alyssa at Fancy Phalanges and Jenna at The Key to Jennasis, Kirsten at Geeky Owl and April at Munia's Nails

Day 17 - Glitter! with Holiday 2011 butterLondons

One of my favorite parts about my barista job is meeting cool, fun people on campus. I remember seeing a girl with nudey nails and two black accents nails on her ring and pinkie fingers - most chic mani I've probably ever seen! Today's glitter polishes work perfectly with the same color scheme. Let me tell you up front that I am not too pleased with my pictures; I got a lot of glare, I couldn't pick out details, and neither my sunlight lamp or flash would get nice (enough for how great it looks in person) photos. Hopefully the sun will be out and I can snap a few pics tomorrow to edit this because I was really hoping to wow with the shiny. I'm really selling this here, eh? Onwards!

2x Tart with a Heart over WnW 'My Private Viewing' (current fave nude)

1x The Black Knight over SH Night Flight

+1x Tart with a Heart - my eyes seriously can't understand this in person!

These beauties came to me in a swap with the lovely Debbie. My other butterLondon's are sort of goopy and hard to apply, but these two were lovely! They did need a lot of topcoat, and I probably would have used Gelous if I wasn't going to be taking this off really soon (for a new daily challenge, obvs). I realized I had to have these after seeing Scrangie's swatches.

In other news, this are only getting busier with this challenge! If only the list was mixed up with those simple color days every once in a while as 'break' days! Oh well. I have something fun up my sleeve for tomorrow's half moon challenge.

A big thank you to everyone that has entered my giveaway so far! I can't believe I broke 100 followers!  Your comments have been incredibly lovely and fascinating :D

Manicurity's FIRST Giveaway! **closed**

Ugh, so when I went to edit this on my iPad to say that it was closed, my entire post got deleted :'(

Essentially I expressed a lot of thanks for all of my followers because I love all of you and am so surprised/pleased that people want to look at the stuff I put on my nails!! And then I had a giveaway with Revlon Facets of Fuchsia and Whimsical; the winner was announced here

Thanks for following! Thanks for entering! Love you! Sorry this got eaten!
Silly iPad!!

Day 16 - Crackle + Tribal Print

This week's Monday Mani challenge in PAA was crackle, and I felt personally responsible for cheerleading this challenge on SO I thought I'd really go all out with my cracklicure (is that a term? should we make it one?). I did a patchwork tape mani with 5 different crackle colors (yeah, FIVE!) with Pure Ice Kiss Me Here as my base.

Today is also "tribal" day for my nail art challenge. I have never done tribal nails before, and I wasn't sure what to do. I was going to sort of cop out and do nudey nails with some tattoo flash-style nail decals, but decided to take advantage of my already crazy over-the-top nails and added some extra lines and dots to make it "tribal"-y.

mega-awkward claw hand, but I feel like my thumb gets left out :(

I still have my flowery skittles on my right hand, so this will be a hilarious combo for work tomorrow!

Day 15 - Under the Sea Delicate Print?

I'm combining my Stamping Sunday and day 15 theme for today so I can be 100% caught up starting tomorrow. Skittles have been my favorite thing lately; they allow me to practice a lot of different ideas and use a lot of different colors. These skittles in particular are rather abstract, so I'll show you my whole hand and then some close ups of each nail with an explanation and some inspiration photos.

"deep sea" thumb - Ulta Across the Universe dupe mini over black

Ready for the fun side by side comparisons of my nails and my inspiration?
I think these look pretty cool with their context!

After doing these, I'm not really sure if I would wear them out together like this. There are some that I really like, like my middle and ring finger, but I am really disappointed in my pointer finger (that "sand" makes me frown). Is this really delicate print? Maybe not, but I think today is really open ended so I don't mind.

Don't forget to check out the other ladies - Bec at Lacquer Dreams, Julia at Julia Loves Nails, Linda at Nail Polish Enthusiast, Alyssa at Fancy Phalanges and Jenna at The Key to Jennasis, Kirsten at Geeky Owl and April at Munia's Nails AND don't forget you can join in on our Stamping Sunday challenges by joining the Facebook group

PS. If you want to know any colors, please ask. I just wanted to get this up ASAP!

Day 14 - Flowery Skittles

I'm really excited about these skittles! I freehanded everything with my non-dominant hand and used a fimo slice on my pinkie. I got some fimo in one of my Secret Santa presents, and it is pretttty cool stuff. It does feel bumpy, but I think I don't mind so much since it's on my pinkie. We'll see if it catches on anything; that would definitely be a downside to it. I hope you're excited to see the debut of my right hand, with pictures by my lovely boyfriend :D

Rocking some rounder nails on both hands after my fateful chip at work on Friday. One great thing from work is that I cut bagels with my left hand in an attempt to build up my ambidexterity, and it seems like this is paying off! Woo! Let me know if you're curious about any of the colors or anything.

I'm trying to catch up so I still have some more things to post today, so stick around :p

And as always, please don't forget to check out the other ladies - Bec at Lacquer Dreams, Julia at Julia Loves Nails, Linda at Nail Polish Enthusiast, Alyssa at Fancy Phalanges and Jenna at The Key to Jennasis, Kirsten at Geeky Owl and April at Munia's Nails

Day 13 - Animal Print?

Welcome, welcome. This post debuts a new, rounded nail shape for me which is really sort of special because I've only been a square or squoval person my whole life! Now, on to the paint part - animal print! To be honest, I'm not really sure what animal these look like. I was hoping for zebra, but it might read more as tiger? This was my first time trying out zebra, so I think it's okay. Every time I try to use MUS Greta as an accent, it's all I can look at, so I matte-ified her but then she looked too boring, so I put some more on....eh. Now it looks weird.
Oh well! Enough words, here's some pictures:

These were inspired by this manicure by Deez Nailz and my accent nail was inspired by all the "outline" manicures I've been seeing on my tumblr dashboard lately, like these.

base: WnW Ebony Hates Chris x2
matte: Essie Matte About You
stripes: black nail art pent
accent nail: Make Up Store Greta

Flowers and some other things coming up today!

Ps. Stylized blockquote - cool idea? Bad idea? Those colors are icky?
Let me know :)

Friday the 13th - Pros and Woes

Pros from today

  • found out Blogger now has threaded comments! SO cool! Now I can reply to each and every one of you mwhahaha
  • I made a lot of money in tips at work today! Yay!
  • I get to file my nails into a new shape
  • Today is the first day of a 3-day weekend for me!
  • I have more than 75 followers - HOLY WOW!
  • It's Friday. Everyone loves Fridays.
  • Boyfriend said we can go suburban shopping this weekend - it's the best kind :)

Woes from today

  • chipped the corner off one of my nails rather badly, but as seen above, maybe now I'll be forced to do a new nail shape! (ovals, right? right. always wanna try the ovals)
  • got a crack in a different nail - now feeling sadfaced about my nail health (but will try using Nail Envy as a base coat instead of a treatment)
  • Have become a day late in posting and doing all the pretty things to my nails = :(
  • Feeling kinda embarrassed about day 12's nails
  • Tired as junk and can't do more things today, even though you were supposed to see two cool new posts today :o/

I hope your Friday the 13th was as reasonably uneventful as mine! I'll have some gooood stuff tomorrow, promise! See you then xx

Day 12 - Stripes!

Alright. No making fun of this one. I had a great idea that really didn't work when I did it on my nails, but I really wanted to post this because I think it's important to see progress (in a year, or even a month, I think I'll be feeling pretty good about my improvement). I can't believe I forgot to post this yesterday, or maybe I subconsciously put it off? I tried to do a cutesy nautical theme. The stripes on my thumb and pinkie were freehand, the middle finger was two stamps of a stripey french tip that I went over with white and ChG Sea Spray.

srsly, always the pinkie out randomly!

at least this picture is cool :p

Not my favorite. I'm not really feeling too hot about this. I'm kinda in a slump, and I have a ton to catch up on today and the rest of the weekend - but at least I get three days off. I broke a nail at work today, so I might have to try a new nail shape.

Don't forget to check out the other ladies - Bec at Lacquer Dreams, Julia at Julia Loves Nails, Linda at Nail Polish Enthusiast, Alyssa at Fancy Phalanges and Jenna at The Key to Jennasis, Kirsten at Geeky Owl and April at Munia's Nails

Day 11 - Dots! featuring Zoyas

Hey guys! I am really exhausted tonight and feeling sort of down, but I do have my first doticure to show you :D This manicure features even moar Zoya nail polish! Whoa! I love Zoya and I love flash promos. Surprisingly, this is my first dotty manicure. I really enjoyed doing it because it was quick and fun, and I think the results look really great.

flash

sunlight lamp

dotty colors

My base color is one of the nudies from the Touch collection, but I don't think it suits my skin tone very well after looking at all of these pictures :0/ I thought maybe my "lobster hands" in the sunlight lamp photo were from the pressure of holding the bottle, but no, look! I am have awkward reddish tones near my cuticles in alllll the pictures. The dot colors (left and right) are two Feel collection colors (whose names escape me but I can check if you want to know), and the middle color in the picture is Amanda (which Rachel Zoe used in her shows at NYFW and is supposed to be nudie? But would look like brown on me according to what I'm feeling from those dots).

picture with only my middle finger in focus...?

There you have it! In other news here, I'm working out some details for a giveaway since I have so very many lovely followers now!!! Look for a giveaway post sometime in the next few days; I was thinking about starting it on the 15th (Saturday) as I would be roughly half-way through my 31 day challenge, but I'm getting antsy about sharing the prize with you so perhaps a little sooner?

Don't forget to check out the other ladies - Bec at Lacquer Dreams, Julia at Julia Loves Nails, Linda at Nail Polish Enthusiast, Alyssa at Fancy Phalanges and Jenna at The Key to Jennasis, Kirsten at Geeky Owl and April at Munia's Nails (it's really interesting to see how similar and vastly different some of our interpretations are)

Day 10 - Gradient = Ombre Nails

I love love love ombre nails! I've always wanted to them, but never had enough similar shade of the same finish of polish. I almost made it!! The color on my thumb is the right color in terms of the gradient, but the finish isn't right. For next time I will definitely put all my color theory knowledge to use and mix colors, rather than try and find the right shades in my stash.

Revlon Blue Lagoon, ChG Bahamian Blues, Jesse's Girl Girls Night Out, Barry M Cobalt Blue, ChG First Mate

Not the most original post in terms of my creative personal take on gradient nails, but I've done sponged gradients before and I know how to do them, while an ombre mani was new to me! And finally some quick and very messy stamped skittles for fun; I was mostly testing out how well the other shades of blue would apply.

PS. The Jesse's Girl and the Barry M shades seem a little dupeish in some of the pictures I took, but I thought they went perfectly in person. Perhaps a comparison post in the future for those two? And just fyi I've read some comparison posts for ChG Bahmian Blue and its dupeish for the blue Barry M ice cream shade.

Day 9 - RAINBOW NAILZ!

Day 9's prompt is rainbow nails! Yay! I like rainbows. Apparently when I was little, I wrote every line of my name in a different color (imagine four different colors in the letter E alone!) - needless to say it took a verrrrry long time! I did a stripey rainbow manicure for one of the PAA Monday Mani Challenges about a month ago, but I wanted to do something different as a lot of people have similarly impressive rainbow digits. Today's is much more subdued, and something fun I haven't done yet - funky french skittles! I tried taping Vs, but they didn't work out very well, so I ended up free-handing (including over the tape attempts on my first two fingers). The base color is Orly Nite Owl.

Bonus end pic for sticking around and reading: aforementioned stripey rainbow nails on my right hand (also totally free-handed!). I don't have a list of shades for this, but I can try if you want me to as I remember the bottles, just not the names. There are three different colors on each finger, but some are hard to see, so look close (especially the red and yellow fingers) :D

gnarly cuticle situation; accept my apologies!

PS. Work started up again, so these posts will be later in the day than before as my schedule is slightly busier now!

PPS. Enjoying these massive pictures? I realized that the vertical ones can be extra large because their horizontal dimension matches up with the horizontal ones this way! If they're too obnoxious, please let me know. And don't forget I leave them large so you can click through for more detail if you want to
