Happy 74th Hunger Games!

Panem is a nation established during an unknown time period following the destruction of modern civilization. It is run by a single-party dictatorship led by President Snow. Panem is divided into thirteen different districts, each providing goods or industry to help sustain the nation and the Captiol - except for the mysterious and deserted thirteenth district... Every year the Hunger Games reminds us the price of rebellion, and gives honor and hope to one lucky winner. The Hunger Games is a battle to the death between 24 representatives - 2 from each district - between the ages of 12 and 18.

Happy 74th Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor.

I know, I know The Hunger Games movie came out what feels like forever ago and I am way late to this party, but I don't care! I really wanted to do a nail art series inspired by the districts to celebrate my nerdiness for the book series & the movie. My darling friend Bee has already done a fab series of them, so it will be a little hard to follow in those footsteps, but I shall try! Today I'm starting off with some Effie Trinket nails, then I'll be doing the 13 districts and possibly some other characters starting this Monday the 14th ((I have two posts ready for tomorrow already and don't want to overload too much))!

This is a mash-up of two of her really obvious manis from the movie - the infamous Reaping gradient nails, and her super long bedazzled blue nails from a dinner scene. I wanted to try out a(nother) recent Etsy purchase, so I did the Reaping colors in reverse on my first two fingers and then did the blue ones as best I could.

Haze Glaze To Serve Man, Catrice Goldfinger, Essence Let's Get Lost

Here are some pictures of the original blue nails in case you were wondering what in Panem I was talking about; these ones don't seem as familiar/popular as the magenta-gold gradients from the Reaping scene and I haven't seen people re-create them as frequently. It was fun trying microbeads for the first time!! They were a lot easier than I expected; but I haven't cleaned them up yet...

Now for some giggles, here is my attempt at some Effie lips. Enjoy this and the rest of your weekend and I'll see you back here Monday for the rest of the series!

  1. Love these Emma!! I looked for other Effie designs but I couldn't find any good pictures of them at the time! Maybe it's an advantage to be doing the series now!
